Cursed by Destiny by Cecy Robson (Signet, Jan. 7th, 2014)-Celia Wird is now part of the Alliance and has been training with, and staying with, vamp hottie Misha. She’s also been going on missions to kill as many Tribemasters as possible, demon lords that have been wreaking havoc on the supernatural community, and impregnating very unwilling females in order to increase their numbers. The situation is escalating, and not only is does Celia have the weight of the world on her shoulders (the demons seem to know her by name, not good), but her lover Aric is getting married under pressure from his pack, in order to continue the purity of the race. It really doesn’t help that Aric, in spite of his status, is terribly jealous of any attention from Misha, but Misha seems to genuinely care for Celia, but although Celia does love Misha, as a friend, she’s madly in love with Aric. Aren’t love triangles fun? Oh, and did I mention that she’s been given a hint as to who she’s destined to be with, and it’s not Aric?
In the third installment of the Weird Girls series, Celia has definitely grown and matured quite a lot from book one, and while she still has her self deprecating humor, she’s also come into her powers significantly and recognizes her capacity to fight. And boy does she fight. In fact, kicking ass comes pretty easily to Celia…if only matters of the heart did too. Misha’s been training her to use her power to control her shifting in order to temporarily take the shape of any animal, a power that is coveted and feared, and even resented, especially by shapeshifters. She’ll need everything in her arsenal, and also the help of her very powerful sisters and their mates, in order to defeat the baddies. Speaking of baddies, the author hasn’t lost her knack for action, and in fact, I kept thinking to myself that this tale would rival anything Lara Croft could dish out (Celia even mentions Lara at one point). Cursed by Destiny is packed with globe trotting adventure, a plethora of ass-kicking (including some really foul creatures and more gore than you can shake a fang, or claw at.) Combine this with some pretty steamy scenes and you’ve got the recipe for a winner. I’ve enjoyed this series from the start, and Cursed doesn’t let up on the fun, and it definitely doesn’t disappoint.
