Ashes of Honor (October Daye #6) by Seanan McGuire (DAW-Sept, 2012)-If you’ve been keeping up with the series, you all know that Etienne, Toby’s fellow knight, has never been one of her greatest fans, but he’s got a huge seekrit, and he’s asked Toby to help him find said seekrit. Of course, the secret in question is his daughter, Chelsea, who he only recently discovered he had: the product of his relationship with a human woman. This of course presents a huge problem, not only is there a threat of Faerie’s secrets coming to life, but when Chelsea is found, she’ll need to make a choice, one that Toby’s own daughter had to make, and it’s a doozy. Not only that, but Chelsea has this nifty little talent, just like her dad, for opening portals, but in her case, she can’t control it, so she’s bouncing all over the place and threatening the very fabric of reality and Faerie. So, Toby must of course rustle up some help from May, Jazz, Quentin, and delightfully, Tybalt, if she’s gonna get this kiddo back and make things right.
This has been one of my favorite UF series for a long time now, and it just keeps getting better. Toby grows more complex and, well, TYBALT!!! I just love me some Tybalt, and if you’ve been waiting on some developments on that front…wellllll, read up! Prepare to experience poor Toby pushed to the limit, however. It gets rough, folks, but boy is it worth it.
