Guest Post (& Giveaway): Lisa Kessler, author of Night Walker

I’m so happy to welcome Lisa Kessler back to the blog! She’s here with some wonderful news about her paranormal romance, Night Walker, as well as a giveaway (it’s international!!), so be sure to check out the details at the bottom of the post! Over to Lisa!

Hi everyone –

Big thank you to Kristin for letting me have a spot on her beautiful blog!  I met Kristin when my paranormal romance novel, Night Walker, debuted last August.

Lots of good things have happened since then, and it’s exciting to come back to share it with you! Since August, my publisher signed a deal with one of the largest book distributors in the country and Barnes & Noble selected Night Walker for their stores! Woot!

Then last week I got the news that Walmart has selected Night Walker to be one of the titles in their Summer Beach Read Promo!!! YAY!!! So the Night Walker cover will be all over the Walmart site from June 26th – July 3rd for the promo! It’s been a dream come true to see Night Walker reaching readers and receiving emails from people touched by Calisto’s story…

And I can’t help but think these new opportunities might not have come about without the awesome support of book bloggers like Kristin. When my first book came out from my brand new publisher, book bloggers jumped on board to help spread the word to readers, and that support has carried Night Walker forward rapidly in a short amount of time!

So what better way to celebrate than to give you a little sneak peek into the book, and then give one commenter a signed paperback!!! WOOT!!!

Excerpt:
“Walk with me?” His low voice stripped away a layer of her
resolve.

Kate nodded, following him down the steps to the sand below,
only stopping for a moment to leave her shoes on the landing. They
walked across the cool beach without saying a word, hand in hand,
and Kate watched the haze float in atop the salt water. It was eerie
and beautiful all in the same moment.

“You are shivering.”

Calisto’s voice added to the tremors that pulsed through her body.
Why did he have to be so perfect? He looked at her like she was the
only woman in the world.

“Am I?”

He smiled, raising their joined hands to place a tender kiss on her
knuckle, and then tugged off his coat and draped it over her shoulders.
“Is that better?”

Kate nodded, no longer able to speak. His masculine scent
surrounded her, and before she could stop herself, she pulled his coat
so tight, the cold lining spread gooseflesh across her skin.

He slid the backs of his cool fingers down her cheek, his lips
hinting at a smile. “Good.”

Kate tilted her chin up. When he bent and brushed his lips against
hers, her breath caught. Her pulse raced and electricity shot through
her veins. Her skin warmed. Had she ever wanted anyone this badly?

She brought her hand to his chest. His chiseled muscles
responded to her touch, and a moan escaped her as he clutched her
tighter. Calisto’s fingers slid through her hair, and her lips parted, her
tongue tasting him, tangling with his until her knees buckled.

Dear God, this man could kiss.

Thanks for celebrating Night Walker’s re-release in mass-market paperback with me!

About Night Walker:

He gave up his soul for a second chance to love her…

Two and a half centuries ago, Calisto Terana lost everything when a zealous priest murdered the woman he loved. Now, desperate for another chance to love her, he wants redemption for the mistake that cost her life.

She’s haunted by dreams of her own death…

After catching her fiance with another woman, Kate Bradley returns to San Diego to clear her head. The last thing she needs is romance, but after meeting Calisto she’s drawn to him in ways she doesn’t understand.

They’ve waited in the shadows for centuries…

Calisto has no doubt Kate is the reincarnation of his lost love, but the Fraternidad Del Fuego Santo has a new watcher with dark ambitions of his own. As old enemies reemerge and a new threat arises, the betrayal that enslaved Calisto to the night might destroy the only woman he’s ever loved again.

Congratulations, Lisa!!! That’s so exciting that your book will be available to so many new readers! I usually find new books through blogs I follow, but I also like to browse in bookstores, too. Unfortunately I live in a town with no bookstore, so online browsing is the best way for me to find new authors.

      Hi Rebe –

Sorry to hear about the lack of bookstores near you! I’m glad online browsing is an option… :)

So do book covers catch your eye or?

      Thanks for commenting!

I alwasy found new author from FB, blog and recommend from my friend

thanks for the giveaway, so excited and i love the cover of night walker :)

    • Lisa Kessler says:

      Hi Eli –

Recommendations from friends is always a great way for me too… Are you on Goodreads? I get lots of great recommendations there too!

      Thanks for commenting!

      Lisa :)

  3. Galena says:

I find new authors/books primarily from reading book blogs like this one. If a book reviewed or mentioned sounds interesting to me, I add it to my “to read” list with the book title, author name, and a little blurb to help me remember what it’s about and why I thought it sounded good. Right now, my list has between 150-200 books on it, because I usually add 5 before I get the chance to take one off (for having read it) :)

    • Lisa Kessler says:

Ha! That is a great to-read list! Wow!!!

I have a ton of books in my Kindle that I haven’t read yet either… Nice to know I’ve got them though! LOL

      THanks for commenting!

      Lisa :)

  4. Lisa says:

I would say my recommendations come from a variety of sites Goodreads, Shelfari, even Amazon. BUT, the #1 places is book bloggers, word of mouth, and twitter.

Thanks for the Excerpt and Congrats on your recent success, B&N and Walmart!!!It must be sooo cool to see your books on display!

Hi Lisa! (Great name by the way!!! LOL)

It has been super exciting to find Night Walker on shelves… And the best part has been that my last name gets me shelved right between Sherrilyn Kenyon and Lisa Kleypas!!! Wow!!! I’m in great company! :)

        Thanks for commenting!

        Lisa :)

    • Lisa Kessler says:

      Hi Patsy –

We’ve got an independent book store in San Diego that I LOVE because all the employees read the books so they’re great at recommending new authors based on who you like! :)

      THanks for commenting!

      Lisa

  9. Kristy says:

I typically find new authors through blogs that I follow, amazon recommendations, or through friends and family. I use to browse through bookstores, but I had a bad habit of judging a book by its cover and ended up with some pretty dry/boring reads.

  10. Laurie says:

Congrats on the release! I get most from bloggers I follow and on Goodreads. I’ve also picked up a few from comments authors make on the covers of books I’ve read, not sure what you call them.
    lfacchini(at)tampabay(dot)rr(dot)com

    • Lisa Kessler says:

      Hi Laurie –

The author blurbs on the front cover always get me too! I was SOOO lucky to get blurbs from Angie Fox and Kelley Armstrong… I love them both so I had to pinch myself when they said nice things about my book! LOL

      Thanks for commenting!

      Lisa :)

  11. Ellen Trieu says:

Hi! Congratulations auntie on the release of the mass market paperback! I definitely have to pick it up in stores soon, well if I don’t win it that is! (: How I find new books/series, I mainly find out from my book friends. They are constantly recommending me new books, I also find them out from book bloggers or facebook pages.

    vampyreprincess109(at)gmail(dot)com

  12. As a blogger, I get lists from publishers, authors, other bloggers, and by trolling publisher sites for new releases and advance info on upcoming books. My list goes well into 2013 with new books and the month of release.

    NoraAdrienne(at)gmail(dot)com

    • Lisa Kessler says:

      HI Nora-Adrienne –

Wow!!! You’re much more organized than me!!! LOL I troll Amazon release dates for my favorites every few months when I remember to see if anything new is out…

      Thanks for commenting!

      Lisa :)

  13. erinf1 says:

congrats! what awesome news! It’s so good to hear about authors getting into the spotlight when most of the publishing news tend to be so dire :)

I discover new authors mainly from the book blogs that I read. I don’t blog but I have a long list of blogs I visit daily to at least once a week. Occasionally I’ll hit on the “if you liked this, you’ll like this” on Amazon but that’s few and far between.

    • Lisa Kessler says:

Thanks Erin!!! It’s been very exciting to see Night Walker reaching new readers…

Publishing is changing rapidly, but I’m doing my best to try to stand out! LOL

      THanks for commenting!

      Lisa :)

  14. catslady says:

Word of mouth, blogs, author sites are all good ways. The best for me has been winning a book from a new to me author and I fall in love with their writing and then check out their backlists.

  15. My sources are either bookstores (only one in the area now and it’s around 30 minutes away), goodreads, other blogs, twitter is a major source as well, and I’ve traded for books that have interested me.

  16. Heather LaSala says:

    Hi Lisa,

I usually use Goodreads, amazon, or recommendations from friends. Congratulations on your book’s release!

  17. Sophia Rose says:

That is such great news that your book has caught the eye of B&N and Walmart. Loved the excerpt!

I don’t have any one source for finding good books. It ranges from word of mouth to browsing a bookstore, to browsing Amazon to reading a post on a blog. I do believe that I heard of Nightwalker from a blog.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  18. Victoria Zumbrum says:

I hear about authors from bloggers, book stores, online and other people. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book. Tore923@aol.com

  19. Rachel @ thejeepdiva.com says:

Wow! Congrats on your book appearing in B&N and Wal-Mart. For smaller towns like mine Wal-Mart is all we have left for a book store. We used to have a Borders and it was closed of course. I usually find new books by bloggers, author/publishers and Goodreads. I used to by book stores but not anymore. Thanks for the post and giveaway.

I find new authors on book blogs, goodreads, and in Walmart and bookstores also. Thanks for the chance to win!

  25. Chelsea Foust says:

I find out about books many different ways, Goodreads is fantastic, and also Amazon, when you buy a book it gives you recommendations and that is always a good way to find a new book or series. Blogs are fantastic as well, i get a lot of emails, and read so many reviews about books, it is an easy way to see what is out there and wether or not it is good. I also work in a library and see every new book that comes in since I process them. Also I talk to all the people who check out books, and co workers, I have found many good books and series to read. I also love telling the lady that orders books about the new ones and then she orders them, it is a great way to find new books.
btw I love your picture and the cover picture on the book! :)

  26. Julianne says:

Usually I find new authors and new series by word of mouth. But recently it’s been through blog hops and tours. Blog hops are fun and besides learning about new authors and their books, you can make new friends along the way.
    Congrats Lisa on Night Walker.

  27. DANIELA says:

    Hi
I get to know new authors by following a few book blogs. Sometimes it’s an interview, sometimes a review. I also like it when I win a book giveaway. Some of the series I’ve started reading were because I won a book of the series and liked it so much I had to have the other ones.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  28. bn100 says:

I like to discover new authors through Amazon. This book sounds good.

  29. miki says:

    hi Lisa,

i’m so happy to find you here today and a bigger thanks you for opening this giveaway to international.
How i discover new authors? Not in my bookstores because being international they only have the top of the selling author and even those with month of delays so not really a good opportunity.
For me it’s thanks to book bloggers ( i discovered you thanks to books monters reviews for example and i follow you since then) and guest post and my opportunity to effectively read new author depends a lot of international giveaway too becausefind a new authers is one things , manage to find the book is sometimes really difficult.
    thanks you again

    isabelle(dot)frisch(at)gmail(dot)com

  30. I troll the web to find, that is how I find new books, new authors, industry news and how I keep track of authors I like. My first point of contact are the blogs. Then I move on to twitter and facebook, not necessarily in that order. And I also subscribe via email to publisher websites, blogs, and author sites. So authors, publishers and blogs whose sites does not allow for email subscribers goes down the list of sites that gets visited.
