About Ghost Road Blues (Pine Deep #1) Winner of the Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel:

Evil Doesn’t Die
The cozy little town of Pine Deep buried the horrors of its past a long time ago. Thirty years have gone by since the darkness descended and the Black Harvest began, a time when a serial killer sheared a bloody swath through the quiet Pennsylvania village. The evil that once coursed through Pine Deep has been replaced by cheerful tourists getting ready to enjoy the country’s largest Halloween celebration in what is now called “The Spookiest Town in America.”

It Just Grows Stronger
But then-a month before Halloween-it begins. Unspeakably desecrated bodies. Inexplicable insanity. And an ancient evil walking the streets, drawing in those who would fall to their own demons and seeking to shred the very soul of this rapidly fracturing community. Yes, the residents of Pine Deep have drawn together and faced a killer before. But this time, evil has many faces-and the lust and will to rule the earth. This struggle will be epic.

About Dead Man’s Song (Pine Deep #2):

Evil Endures

Once an idyllic Pennsylvania village, Pine Deep awoke one morning to find itself bathed in a massive bloodletting. Twice in thirty years the townsfolk have endured the savage hungers of a murderous madman. . .but if the residents think the death of serial killer Karl Ruger put an end to the carnage, they’re dead wrong.

The Nightmare Never Ends

Bodies mutilated beyond description, innocents driven to acts of vicious madness. A monstrous evil is preying on the living—and the dead—and turning the quiet little town into hell on earth. Their only hope is to find the source. But the secrets that lurk in the heart of Pine Deep are twisted into its very roots. This time the townspeople aren’t just fighting for their lives, but for their very souls…

About Bad Moon Rising (Pine Deep #3):

From A Funfest. . .

Each year, the residents of Pine Deep host the Halloween Festival, drawing tourists and celebrities from across the country to enjoy the deliciously creepy fun. Those who visit the small Pennsylvania town are out for a good time, but those who live there are desperately trying to survive. . .

To A Bloodfest

For a monstrous evil lives among them, a savage presence whose malicious power has grown too powerful even for death to hold it back. Only a handful of brave souls stand against the King of the Dead and a red wave of destruction. Daylight is fading and a bad moon is rising over Pine Deep. Keep watching the shadows. . .

I would have to say the thing that scared me the most as a child was ghosts. I grew up in on a farm in the country and always had to go out at night for one reason or another. Of course it had to be after I was watching a scary movie or reading a creepy book. I was always after something was going to grab me when I was out on my midnight errands.

Thank you for the great giveaway. I love Jonathan Mayberry’s works!!

  2. Tracey says:

It seems funny now, but vampires were the scariest creatures to me as a child. It scared me so bad that I couldn’t look out the window at night for fear that one would be hovering there waiting for me to ask him in! (that memory just gave me a chill!) I always slept with the covers up to my neck, protecting myself from those teeth. The reason it’s funny…vampires are my favorite supernatural creatures now! Weird, huh? :)

  3. Molly Frenzel says:

The supernatural character that scared me the most as a child was Pennywise, the clown from Stephen King’s It. After watching the movie when I was 10, I wasn’t scared. I didn’t ask to sleep in my parents room. I lived in a sgl. level house and my bed backed right up to my open window. After I was in bed for awhile, my father thought it would be funny to go to the window and say, “We all float down here.” He sounded just like that stupid clown. To this day, whenever I see clowns I get freaked out and nauseous.

  4. Rain Maiden Jen says:

When I was a kid, I thought my family were a bunch of vampires. I would go around asking them to smile at me so I could see if they had fangs. I have to laugh at myself now. Thanks for the fabulous giveaway!

  5. Kristin says:

These answers are awesome, you guys!

  6. Doc Redbat says:

Barnabas Collins! As a child I had the Dark Shadows game and his picture would absolutely freak me out at night.

  7. Traci Loya says:

seems so silly now, but Creature from the Black Lagoon caused me SEVERAL nightmares as a child..

  8. Kimmie M. says:

When I was a kid I was scared to death of Bloody Mary. My brother used to tell me if you went in the bathroom, said Bloody Mary 3 times, then turned on the light she would appear in the mirror. The thought of that happening terrified me!

  9. Deb says:

It wasn’t so much a “supernatural” being, it was just a being who seemed to keep coming back over and over again. Jason. My mom loved these movies and for some reason picked me to be the one to watch them with her. I would jump from the door to my bed because I thought that creep would be under the bed. I don’t have a problem with him now but back then he scared the pants off of me!

  10. Liam says:

My older brother and sister would terrify me with stories of seances they held that provokes the apparition of a “green hand.” That thing haunted my dreams.

  11. As a child, I was really afraid of King Kong, which I don’t think is supernatural, but I had so many nightmares. I don’t think I really had any about supernatural creatures. Maybe a basilisk, as I had a picture book with a horrifying story about one.

  12. Saturn Bull says:

Harold the animated, human skin-wearing scarecrow from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz. Why? Because he skinned a man (probably alive) and then set the pelt out to dry on the roof of a house, as if it was a perfectly normal thing for anybody to do.

Also, Stephen Gammell’s illustrations are so minimalistic-ly macabre. And did you ever hear the audiobook version of each book, read by George S. Irving? Totally terrifying.

  13. Kristen says:

Ghosts are what always scared me most as a child. lol :P I think it was the fact that you never knew if one was lurking around just waiting to scare you.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  14. Kristen Heyl says:

I know he isn’t supernatural but I had nightmares about the Hulk if I even watched the opening credits. For a supernatural creature, I would have to say that werewolves scared me the most.

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  15. I loved horror movies as a child, but they stilled scared the you know what out of me. I particularly remember seeing the 1979 version of Dracula and it scared me to death so I’m going to say Dracula, or vampires.

    Thanks for the chance!

  16. Rachel @ thejeepdiva.com says:

I was scared to death of zombies when I was a child. Any other supernatural creature was fine. I loved horror movies but zombies scared me. Even the old zombie movies that were so cheesy gave me nightmares. I have now gotten over that though.

  17. Bridget Howard says:

Honestly I was always really scarred of Werewolves as a kid the fact that a human could turn into a monster during the full moon was just creepy!!!!

  18. Tim says:

I have to confess it was Gremlins, but that was my own fault for watching the movies.

  19. Allie says:

Ghost hands down. But i was scared of Freddy Kruger for a while. Dude! He gets you in your dreams! Thebooklass(at)gmaildotcom

  20. debbie says:

I would say, whatever creature could live under my bed. I literally slept with my feet as close to me as I could, so I wouldn’t take the risk of them getting over the edge of the bed, for years as a child.

  21. Malinda Chaney says:

When I was little I was afraid of ghosts and the closet monster. In bed at night I would have to be facing the closet so that it couldn’t sneak up on me.

  22. Gale Nelson says:

I would have to go with witches. When I was little I was scared every time I watched The wizard of oz. Gale

  23. Heidi says:

Awesome! Do you remember Poltergeist? That scene with the stuffed crazed clown doll that attacks the kid? When he goes to look under the bed and whips up the sheets and nothing is there and then it jumps on his back? Scared the bejesus out of me! Crazed Killer clown dolls rates at the top of my list and snakes in the toilet are second. I still look before I sit down oh and alligators in the sewer.

  24. Galena says:

I was most scared by zombies, but now I love zombie stories :) Irony, huh?

  25. Clowns! After seeing “It” clowns became very scary to me!

  26. Kati says:

I was always terrified of ghosts because I believed my room was haunted. Still do. The room can be freaky if there isn’t a little bit of light in it. Always felt like someone was watching me.

  27. I think ghosts the most. I remember semi-living with my best friend and she had a ghost in her house and he made it so you knew he was there. We would see him in the room with us. Some times if we looked out the window her would be there. Freaked us OUT. I am sure he is still in that house but we are long gone.

Thanks for the SUPER giveaway! I sooo have two of these on my wishlist for my horror/thriller challenge. Thank you for the chance!

  28. Terri Bruce says:

It wasn’t one creature in particular, but I got the idea (probably from poltegeist) that if you think about thinks it calls them into being – so whenever people talked about anything like that I would freak out because I was afraid that if I thought about it I would make it come true/create it!

  29. Beth W says:

Then, and now, the scariest thing to me is a Doppelganger. The concept that a soulless creature can emulate you in every aspect, and steal away your entire life and identity (and you’d be helpless against it) scares the heck out of me. I mean…without an identity, what am I?

  30. Danielle P says:

When I was a child I was definitley scared of vampires because of the tv show Buffy the Vampire Slayer! That show scared me so much! I couldn’t watch it unless it was daytime! HAHA And now I love my vamps. :)

  31. Jennifer N. says:

I guess I was scared most by the thing I thought lived in my closest, I guess you’d say the Bogeyman. That closed door always had me wondering at night if anything crept out like in Monsters INC.

  32. TFrances says:

I was definitely scared of monsters under the bed. Every night, I would make a running leap to get onto my bed before they could grab my feet. Then I would turn off the light and hide under the blankets. I thought that if they couldn’t see any skin, they couldn’t see me. Nevermind that I was a breathing lump under there, I was safe. And god forbid I drop anything off my bed. It was a goner until the next morning.

  33. carla says:

I was and slightly still have a fear of Werewolves. I was 6 when I caught the scary part of An American Werewolf in London – I was horrified. I had nightmares for years. It didn’t help that I lived on a farm in rural country with the woods surrounding the house. Sometimes I thought I wasn’t dreaming and that there were in fact evil demon wolves outside the house at night waiting to get to me.

  34. Katie Amanda says:

I was terrified of ghosts. I would convince myself that I saw them each night. I remember hiding under my covers and staying as still as possible. I lost many hours of sleep. :(

    Thanks for joining the giveaway!

  35. Jaime Lester says:

My daddy was the most awesome in the world, and let me watch scary movies when my mom would have flipped. We would try to sneak one in every weekend, with me cuddled in his lap eating popcorn. My little eyes usually ended up covered up in his shoulder at some point or other, but I loved scary movies. The one that absolutely horrified me, and still some 18 years later, gives me the willies is Candyman. Just thinking about that creature makes spooks me still. Michael, Jason and Freddy weren’t far behind either.
Unfortunately my daddy isn’t here anymore but his love of scary movies has continued with me.

  36. Kayla B. says:

I was raised in a very religious community, so I was scared to death of demons when I was a child. I always wanted to go to the Catholic church to get Holy Water. :-P

  37. Brooke D says:

Zombies scared me the most as a kid because I didn’t quite understand what they were and they looked so disgusting and gross to me.

  38. bn100 says:

Ghosts scared me because they could have been anywhere and haunted any place.

  39. Tim Ward says:

Highway to Heaven somehow spawned a recurring dream about werewolves when I was in elementary school. I still remember them.

  40. Mandy Gann says:

As a child, I didn’t believe in ghosts or anything else otherworldly. I was born an insomniac, so I never even had the fear of the dark. I was awake too much to be afraid of things that went “bump” in the night.
As an adult, however, that has changed. ;)

  41. Amy Stender says:

When I was 8 I watched Critters with my cousins, even though I wasn’t supposed to—I was too young and it would scare me. But I wanted to be “cool” like my older cousins and I watched it. For a month I was afraid that the critter monsters lived under my bed and in my closet and couldn’t get out of bed without my mom in the room.

  42. Tim says:

I was terrified of the child Jason in the first Friday the 13th for quite a while. My mom let me watch it when I was really young, and it scared me to death when he popped out of the water. I didn’t sleep for a week.

  43. Kristin says:

I have had such a wonderful time reading everyone’s answers! I’ll try to have the winner posted tomorrow afternoon:) Good luck everyone, and thanks so much for stopping by!

  44. Jennifer Metz says:

I was absolutely terrified of Freddy Krugar, I had nightmares for months!
