Today I’ve got the lovely Cie Adams, one half of the writing duo (along with Cathy Clamp), Cat Adams, on the blog! Their brand new installment of the Blood Singer Series, The Isis Collar, just came out, and Cie was kind enough to answer a few questions. Also, I’ve got 2 copies of The Isis Collar up for grabs, so be sure to check out the giveaway details at the bottom of the post!
Please welcome Cie to the blog!
Cie, you’re the author of more than 15 novels with Cathy Clamp, and the 4th book in your Blood Singer series, The Isis Collar, is out this month! Think back to when you sold your first book… How did you celebrate? Was there squeeing? Cake? Both?
LOTS of squeeing. As I recall there was also dinner at Red Lobster, and chocolate.
Would you tell us a bit about The Isis Collar?
Celia throws down with a wicked witch who has unleashed a magical zombie plague. It’s very tense, because the villain has targeted schoolchildren.
What has been your favorite character to write in the Blood Singer Series?
Oh, I have a hard time choosing. There are so many fun ones. Celia, of course, is a favorite. But I love Bruno. Cathy prefers John Creede. Bubba is fun. One of my favorite scenes is when he confronts Celia on the siren island because he thinks she’s been lying to him.
What do you love most about writing Urban Fantasy/Paranormal?
I love that it is so limitless, but at the same time grounded in reality.
Do you listen to music when you write, and if so, is there a playlist?
I don’t listen to music much while I am actually writing. But there are many songs that inspire me for the writing sessions. For example, “Because of You” really inspires me in the scenes where Celia is dealing with her mother. There was an Evanesence song that truly captured Celia’s relationship with her best friend Vicki, and her sense of loss at her death. And Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You” actually inspired an entire series that I haven’t had time to write yet, but am really looking forward to.
If the Blood Singer series was ever made into a movie, who do you picture as your main characters (Celia, Bruno…)?
Alas, in my head they are actual people, so I don’t really see someone else playing them. It’s like asking who you’d have portray your sister or mom. Just too weird. I know that sounds freaky. But for me it’s true.
With Book 5, The Eldritch Conspiracy, due soon, are there any firm plans for how many books you’d like in the series, or will you just see where it takes you?
We have ideas, but it’s always up to the public and the publisher. Is there enough interest and fan base for the series to continue? If so, we’ll keep going, because it’s a really rich world, and we love the characters.
When you’re not busy writing, how do you like to spend your free time?
Free time? Vat is zis sing of vich you speak?
If you could have drinks with anyone (living or dead, literary or otherwise), who would it be?
There is one particular ex-boyfriend with whom it ended very badly because I was young and an idiot. I’d love to have several drinks with him and find out how his life has turned out and apologize for having hurt us both way back when. Corny, I know, but true.
If you could read one book again for the first time, what would it be?
Laurell K. Hamilton’s GUILTY PLEASURES. It was the first urban fantasy book I ever read and it opened my eyes to the possibilities.
What are you reading now?
Right now I am in the editing cave, and doing release promotion, and working at the day job full-time. I have a TO READ stack up to the ceiling, but I have absolutely promised myself that I WILL NOT crack open any of those books until I turn in the edits. I’m thinking that will be next Monday and I’m REALLY looking forward to it.
Is there any further news of upcoming projects or events that you’d like to share with us?
Well, the next two weekends Cathy and I will be having signings in Texas, you can check out our website for specifics. I will be attending RT in Chicago as well, and am really hoping to see a bunch of people there.

About The Isis Collar:
Celia Graves was once an ordinary human, but those days are long gone. Now she strives to maintain her sanity and her soul while juggling both vampire abilities and the powers of a Siren.
Warned of a magical “bomb” at a local elementary school, Celia forces an evacuation. Oddly, the explosion seems to have no effect, puzzling both Celia and the FBI. Two weeks later, a strangely persistent bruise on Celia’s leg turns out to be the first sign of a magical zombie plague.
Finding the source of the plague isn’t Celia’s only concern. Her alcoholic mother has broken out of prison on the Sirens’ island; her little sister’s ghost has possessed a young girl; and one of Celia’s boyfriends, a powerful mage, has disappeared.
