Interview and Giveaway: Celia Jerome, author of Fire Works in the Hamptons

Hi gang! Today on the blog, I’m thrilled to welcome Celia Jerome, author of the Willow Tate series (Trolls in the Hamptons, Night Mares in the Hamptons, and the brand new Fire Works in the Hamptons.) Celia was kind enough to answer a few of my questions, and has also generously offered a copy of Fire Works in the Hamptons to one lucky winner, so be sure to read the details at the end of the post.

Please welcome Celia to the blog!

Celia, in your Willow Tate series, you’ve written Trolls in the Hamptons, Night Mares in the Hamptons, and the brand new Fire Works in the Hamptons, with more to come! Have you always wanted to be a writer?
I’ve always thought about writing fantasy. Finally got the courage to try.

How did you celebrate when you found out your first novel would be published?
I called everyone I knew!

The Willow Tate covers are beyond stunning! Do you have any say in the cover process?
Very little, although I did keep reminding the artist that Willow had blond hair, not brown. I suggest scenes, etc., and he does what he wants, beautifully. He gave Willow blue eyes on the first cover, so I changed the book to match!

What’s one of your most unusual writing quirks?
I don’t know if it’s unusual or not, but I spend more time thinking than actually writing. I also have a small dog at my side, helping.
What led you to write in the Urban Fantasy genre, as opposed to something else? DAW Books picked the genre name, mostly, I think, because TROLLS starts off in Manhattan. I thought I was writing contemporary fantasy/magic.

What are 5 of your all-time favorite books?
Pride and Prejudice and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Stuart Little, but after that, it’s more favorite authors than particular books. I read a lot of mysteries now, and am always waiting for new ones by Lee Child. No more Robert Parker’s Spenser novels, sigh. In science-fiction/fantasy, it’s Terry Pratchett, Naomi Novik, and recently Patrick Rothfuss.

When you’re not busy writing, how do you like to spend your free time? Reading, walking the beach, cheering for the Yankees (next year!) going to yard sales, and volunteering at the local library.

Is there any news of upcoming projects or events that you’d like to share with us?
I’d like to mention that FIRE WORKS IN THE HAMPTONS just got a Top=pick review, 4 ½ stars, from RT Book Reviews magazine. And that the next Willow Tate book is LIFE GUARDS IN THE HAMPTONS, for next May.

About Fire Works in the Hamptons (Willow Tate #3):
Graphic novelist Willow Tate has a paranormal talent for “drawing” beings from the realm of Faerie into our world. So why did she foolishly make the hero of her next book a fire wizard? Now she has to contend with a rash of “fire” flies, a gorgeous firefighter, and an arsonist who seems determined to set East Hampton ablaze…

  1. I’ve read both of the earlier books, and have been looking forward to this one! By the way, you might want to have the publisher yell at (or maybe speak quietly to) Barnes and Noble. On their website they “Fire Works” as book 2 in the series, and “Night Mares” as book 3!

  2. Wonderful interview and this book looks like a fantastic read! Thank you for the invite!
