Every Sunday I feature a title from an often overlooked genre: Suspense! These are books I’ve read and highly recommend to anyone that loves agood mystery or crime story, sometimes with a little humor thrown in!
Today’s feature title is: Grave Sight (Harper Connelly #1) by Charlaine Harris
Harper Connelly has what you might call a strange job: she finds dead people. She can sense the final location of a person who’s passed, and share their very last moment. The way Harper sees it, she’s providing a service to the dead while bringing some closure to the living-but she’s used to most people treating her like a blood-sucking leech. Traveling with her step-brother Tolliver as manager and sometime-bodyguard, she’s become an expert at getting in, getting paid, and getting out fast. Because for the living it’s always urgent-even if the dead can wait forever.
For these two there is no right, no wrong, no rules.
Only the truth…and terror.
My take: The Harper Connolly series is a nice departure from Sookie and the vamps, and Harper and her brother are definitely characters worth getting to know. Ms. Harris’ writing is sharp and a little more serious here, and I really enjoy the cases that Harper takes on. If you’re tired of vamps, and need a break, this is a great series to try!
