My Bookish News: July 22nd, 2011

Happy Friday, gang! I’ve been wanting to start a bookish type news post for a while, so here’s my first crack at it. Here you’ll find cool things I’ve stumbled upon during the week, and also news about upcoming books and more!

First up is the release of Supernatural: The Anime Series on July 26th on DVD. I’m not a huge anime fan, but I AM a huge Supernatural  fan, and from what I can see in this clip, it looks pretty awesome.

Heartlessbook 4 of the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger just dropped, but did you also know that you can snag ALL THREE of the first books, SoullessChangeless, and Blameless on Nook and Kindle for only 9.99? Well, now you do, so if you haven’t discovered this series, this is a very cost effective way to do it! Also, Orbit has some wonderful short fiction up for grabs from authors such as Jaye Wells, Jennifer RardinMira Grant, and Jesse Petersen, all for a STEAL at $1.99 each!

One title I’m really excited about is Devyn Quinn’s Darkness Descending (out from Signet on August 2nd), and you can head over to her website to find out more about the book and also request some awesome bookplates and bookmarks!

In Urban Fantasy news, Circle of Enemies (Twenty Palaces #3) by Harry Connolly is out August 30th, and if you haven’t started this wonderful series yet, you can catch up with Ray Lilly in Book 1, Child of Fire, on Kindle and Nook for only .99 cents! Also be sure to visit Harry Connolly’s website to learn more about this great series!

Are you a Brandon Sanderson fan? Well, I am, and if you’re in the San Diego, Seattle, and Houston areas (plus a few more-I’m not, waaaahhhh), Brandon will be touring for his release of Book 4 in the Mistborn series: The Alloy of Law from Nov. 8th-15th, so be sure to check out the tour schedule! Oh, and don’t forget to pick up a copy of  The Elendel Daily!

While lots of lucky folks are in San Diego at Comic Con 2011, Tor has decided to do something for the rest of us and have a ginormous giveaway! All you have to do is leave a comment on the Tor blog post telling Tor what fab thing you’ll be doing this week while you’re Not At Comic Con. 18 books are up for grabs, including The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson, Kitty Goes to War by Carrie Vaughn, The Half-Made World by Felix Gilman, and much, MUCH more! You may read the complete rules HERE.

Did you know that you can download a sampler of some of the hottest new titles coming up from Ace/Roc? This sampler includes titles such as Shadow Kin by MJ Scott, Dead Iron by Devon Monk, and Working Stiff by Rachel Caine (plus more!) Be sure to download Penguin’s Teen sampler, including Falling Under by Gwen Hayes, Bite Club by Rachel Caine, and more, as well as samplers from DAW and Berkley/Signet,

*Also click on over to enter Penguin’s Comic Con 2011 Sweepstakes and they’re offering 20% off select titles featured during Comic Con!

Finally, if you’re a parent, you probably remember reading the adorable touch and feel book, Pat the Bunny to the kiddos. Well, out now is Pat the Zombie from Ten Speed Press for adults like me that love all things zombie! Click on over to the website to watch a fun little teaser trailer! This is one book that parents and zombie lovers alike will love!
About pat the zombie:

In this soon-to-be classic, trusting toddlers Paul and Judy play peek-a-boo with a shroud, inhale the aroma of decomposing remains, check in the mirror for signs of infection, reach for Daddy’s putrefying face, and, of course, gut the Zombie! Grownup fans of the original will find all eight activities revoltingly re-imagined, with all their favorite touch-and-feel features creatively, yet sensitively, lampooned, as the undead come lurchingly back to life.

  1. I'm an anime fan so I'll probably check out Supernatural: The Anime and see if I like it. I've seen a few Supernatural episodes so I probably will. Did you also know that Gail Carriger's series that you mentioned here is being/had been turned into a manga?
