Die For Me by Amy Plum
About the book (From BN.com)
My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind. While I’m fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family’s—in jeopardy for a chance at love?
Die For Me is a story about a girl named Kate who moved to Paris with her older sister Georgia to live with their paternal grandparents after the death of their parents. There she encounters Vincent and his friends. But all is not as it seems with her new acquaintances. They have a secret. One that they are not supposed to reveal to anyone. But as Kate’s life is unknowingly saved by Vincent, she’s brought into their lives and their stories are revealed.
Amy Plum’s story made me ache with a loss that was not my own. If that doesn’t show how much of an impact her words had on me, I don’t know what would. It was sad, sweet, and haunting. Her descriptions so vivid, her prose so lovely. It was seriously a breath of fresh air. Her mythology unique and captivating. She showed how Kate’s new home, Paris, that should have been familiar, comforting and soothing, turned out to be dull, gray, and dark. Also, she’s given us an amazing new love story to root for. Reading how things were for Kate and Vincent had me all starry eyed. He’s a total gentleman, courageous, and very strong. Amy created a perfect setting for a beautiful new love story.
I’ve always been into paranormal romance and all that goes along with it, but I can honestly say that this was unlike anything I’d thought I would read and enjoy so much. She combined immortals and, basically, zombies. At least, that’s what Jules, mainly, calls them. But they are so much more than that. And Amy made them heroes. She created characters that were likeable and entertaining, like Jules, Ambrose, and even… Gaspard. For those who’ve read Die For Me, at some point you were probably a little iffy about him, but he certainly showed that he’s worthy and not wimpy.
This is a To Die for piece of fiction, in my opinion. It’ll make your heart beat fast with anticipation and then leave you breathless with its ending. It certainly left me with stars in my eyes and swooning slightly. And finally, it’ll leave you wanting more at the very end. It was a perfect ending to a perfect book. And That Vincent is really swoon worthy. He’s definitely ranking high on my list of Best Book Boys for 2011.Also, this was one of those lines that really stuck with me – ‘Kate asked herself this question – what’s better, I thought, to be safe and suffer alone, or risk pain and actually live?’
‘We stood there, looking out at the city of light together for a few euphoric moments before he leaned his head down and whispered, “the answer to your question of where I was taking you would be… To the most beautiful place in Paris. With the most beautiful girl I have been lucky enough to set eyes on, and who I desperately hope will agree to meet me again. As soon as possible”
Amy Plum has certainly delivered with her debut novel for 2011. I’m looking forward to the sequel ‘Until I die’.
