New Feature! Sci-fi Saturday and Giveaway!

I have a feature that I do every Sunday here on the blog called Suspense Sunday, where I feature a Suspense title from my library. To kick off what I hope will be an ongoing feature called Sci-fi Saturday, I’d like to spotlight one of my fave (so far) sci-fi titles and offer a giveaway!
I’m relatively new to sci-fi, and I’m constantly discovering new titles! I’m hoping to enlist my husband, who is my resident sci-fi expert, in not only recommending titles, but also providing suggestions for Sci-fi Saturday!
Today’s Sci-fi Saturday Feature is: Grimspace (Sirantha Jax 1) by Ann Aguirre!
Publisher: Penguin (Feb. 2008)
Synopsis: As the carrier of a rare gene, Sirantha Jax has the ability to jump ships through grimspace-a talent which makes her a highly prized navigator for the Corp. Then a crash landing kills everyone on board, leaving Jax in a jail cell with no memory of the crash. But her fun’s not over. A group of rogue fighters frees her…for a price: her help in overthrowing the established order.
I never reviewed this for the site because I read it quite some time before I started the blog, but I can definitely say it was the book that opened the sci-fi door for me.  It’s not hard sci-fi, so it’s a great book for newbies, and Sirantha Jax is one of my favorite characters to come along in quite awhile! Clever dialogue, romance, and wonderful characterizations set this series apart! VERY highly recommended!

hi Kristin! i'd go for Harry Potter. i've always admired this character. i could learn a lot of magic along the way plus we're both orphans so that's one thing we have in common. thanks for this giveaway and for making it international! c",)

  2. aobibliophileβ„’
  3. Hmm…good question…I'd like to be adrift in space with Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files. He's resourceful, likes a drink and I think some magic might help us reach landfall! πŸ™‚

Thanks for the international giveaway! πŸ™‚

  4. I'd pick Captain Kirk – he always managed to get his crew out of trouble … I just have to make sure I'm not wearing a red shirt *lol*.

    danaan at gmx dot at

  5. I'd choose Jace Wayland from the Mortal Instruments or Zsadist from The Black Dagger Brotherhood

  6. Omg thats a very difficult question. Honestly I don`t know. My latest crush in books are Ren from Nightshade. πŸ™‚

Please count me in for the giveaway. I haven`t read that much sci fi yet. But really want to πŸ˜€

  7. Well obviously I want to end up with Jace Wayland! who wouldnt be? wouldnt you want a witty companion who's dreamy and steamy at the same time!

  8. Oh well I might have to take Eric from the Sookie Series not only would it be a good time, but he can fly also.

    terilhack at yahoo dot com

  9. Hm good question. I think I would pick Rhage from The Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

  11. Difficult question…I would choose Roarke from In Death Series.

    myra0502 AT yahoo DOT com

  12. This is a tough one. I would say Adrian from Vampire Academy purely out of entertainment value.

    deadtossedwaves at gmail dot com

  13. I would like to be adrift in space with Stefan from the Vampire Diaries.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

    artgiote at gmail dot com

  14. I've always had a thing for Mr. Darcy. However, I think being trapped together for so long, I would have to go with someone, who would make me laugh.

  15. I've already seen Harry Potter mentioned, but he's so boring! I'd go with the Weasley twins (they'd pretty much count as one, right?). Then my time spent in space would at least be entertaining.

    captainsarahsparrow at hotmail dot com

  16. I'm not entering because I already have Grimspace, but I'd pick Mal Reynolds from Firefly, or March from Grimspace.
I love SciFi Romance, and if you haven't read any of Linnea Sinclair's books, you should check them out.

  17. In real life I would take my husband, as for fictional, I would also choose Jace Wayland from the Mortal Instruments Series (as I am currently reading City of Fallen Angels) but to be honest, this series is one of my fave series that I have ever read. I wish they had stuff like this when I was younger.

  18. If I were stranded in space, I'd definitely choose Bones from the Night Huntress series. Love his accent. πŸ™‚

  19. I would hate to think I would strand someone adrift in space just so I would have company but if I did go that route it would be Ender from Ender's Game that kid is so smart he sure could figure out how to get us out of that mess.

  20. Hugh Jackman AKA Wolverine. He'd kick who's ever butt needs kicking! :O)

  21. I would go with Kitty Kat from the series by Gini Koch. I mean… If I've to go to space, is better to go with someone who knows what and how is dealing with. XDDD

  22. I would pick Edward Cullen or Angel from Buffy. Please enter me in contest. It sounds like a very good book.

  23. melissasmeanderings

    Mal from Firefly!

    mk261274 at gmail dot com

  24. Melissa (Books and Things)

You know… I'm thinking Bones from Nighthuntress novels. He seems like he could handle any situation thrown at him. Plus, hee… hee… ;D

books (dot) things (at) yahoo (dot) com

  25. I think I would choose Edward Cullen from Twilight.

  26. Ripley from the Alien movies, as my protector. She has the right experience to keep me safe from gut spurting aliens!!!

  27. Tweet :

  28. I have a huge crush on Colonel Brandon from "Sense and Sensibility." (I'm going through my romance of the classics annual phase.) He would be witty, charming, & if we ever ran out of oxygen, be such a gentlemen as to give me the last gasp.

  29. Ah well. Talk about space and my answer is easy.

I would take the McGiver of the spaceways, the cute little robot R2D2 from Star wars along with me.

He is very inventive and intelligent.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  30. I would want Irial from Ink Exchange. He has been alive a very long time so he would have a lot of stories. Also he is very clever and would be fun to talk to.

    thegirlonfire27 at gmail dot com

  31. I would want Eric from Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse Vampire Mystery series. He's been around for a long time and has to have lots of stories and know-how. He can also fly us out of the situation.

  36. I'd want Matt Cruse from Starclimber with me because he's really good at staying calm and getting through tough situations, and he knows how to fly a ship (even if they're not the kind we use – but I'm sure he'll figure it out lol).

  37. I'd choose either Dumbledore from the HP series (he'd be able to bring me home in a flash) or Spock (he'd know how to fix those engines, and he's single;) )

    spamscape [at] gmail [dot] com

  38. Peeta Mellark. He'll do anything for me if something happens.

  47. Hmm..i've recently read the Fever series by KMM and really enjoyed reading about Mac. She grows so much and adapts startingly well to life in Dublin with all the scary fae, plus i admire how she copes with her sister's death and how she treats Dani. Therefore i think she'd be a great companion, always ready to face whatever comes her way but still up for a laugh n girly time:)

  48. Offbeat Vagabond

Oooh, that is a good question. There are so many to choose from. But I would go with Bones. He holds his own and sometimes we wouldn't need to fight because most people know not to cross or you would lose your head. Literally, LOL! Love the new feature hon, this is a lot of fun. Thank you πŸ™‚

  54. I'd want Edward Cullen (even though I'm a Team Jacon fan) because he'd be a lot easier to handle in space. He wouldn't get annoyed and freaked out about being up there and away from civilisation.

  55. I would love to be marooned in space with Valen of Breath And Bone by Carol Berg!!! *le sigh*
