My name is Bonita Torres, and eight months ago I was an unemployed college graduate without a plan. Now I’m an investigator with the Private Unaffiliated Paranormal Investigations team of New York. Pretty awesome, right?
The Cosa Nostradamus, the magical community, isn’t quick to give up its secrets, though. Not even to fellow members. Not even when it’s in their best interests. So we’ve been busting our tails, perfecting our forensic skills, working to gain acceptance. The team’s tight… but we have our quirks, too. And our Big Dog, Benjamin Venec…well, he’s a special case, all right.
But we can’t give up. We’re needed, especially when a case comes along that threatens to pit human against fatae. But one wrong move could cost us everything we’ve worked for….
MY REVIEW
I’ve been a fan of Laura Ann Gilman’s for awhile, and really enjoyed Hard Magic, the first one in this series, so I was expecting to enjoy this one as well, and I wasn’t disappointed. This series reminds me a bit of CSI but with magic users and Bonita Torres is a fun character and a great narrator.  The gang from Hard Magic is back, this time to solve an attempted rape of a ki-rin’s personal companion. The survivor claims she was bate, and that’s when all hell breaks loose! Human-fatae relations are on edge, and so is Bonnie. It will take everything her team as at its disposal to solve this one.
Ms.Gilman’s writing is always good, and this one was no exception. If you like your police procedural laced with magic, style, and a dash of romance, this is the series for you!
